The Dawnay Arms

This is no ordinary pub. There's the picturesque setting on the banks of the River Ouse, the inviting open fire and homely scrubbed wooden stools and tables. But more importantly, there's chef Martel Smith in the kitchen. Smith trained with the likes of Marco Pierre White before refurbishing this 18th century inn. Dishes such as warm salad of wood pigeon with bacon, pistachio and quail eggs, and slow roast loin of lamb stuffed with wild mushrooms, served with Lyonnaise potatoes pays testament to the pub's culinary ambitions. But there's simpler fare on offer too, such as lunchtime sandwiches made with homemade bread or a starter of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.
