Restaurant 21212
There's nothing run of the mill about 21212, the latest addition to Edinburgh's burgeoning gastronomic scene. Take that rather cryptic-sounding name for example; its not the restaurant's telephone number, but a numerical indication of the structure of the five course menu that offers two choices of starter, main and dessert with a no choice middle and cheese course served in between. Its the sort of playfulness gourmet's have come to expect from the extraordinary mind of chef Paul Kitching. The food is not as wacky as at his previous restaurant Juniper; so scallops come with green grape juice, almonds, barley, chives and olive rather than with Horlicks sauce. The beautifully converted four storey Georgian town house also includes a bar and three luxurious bedrooms.
