La Becasse
Chef Alan Murchison of L’ortolan in Shinfield fame stepped into some big shoes when he took over the former premises of the highly acclaimed Hibiscus restaurant. With the help of talented second in command Will Holland, he’s doing a fine job of upholding Ludlow’s reputation as the gastronomic centre of England. Exposed stone work and wood panelling lend a natural charm to the two interconnected, cosy dining rooms where the service is slick and the food precise and polished. Dishes such as squab pigeon breast ballotine, pan fried foie gras, wasabi, mango salsa, port and sesame emulsion demonstrate the kitchen’s ability to successfully apply classical techniques to daring flavour combinations.
