Part of Alan Murchison's award-winning 10 in 8 fine dining group, Le Becasse ('the woodcock') is set in a 17th century former coach house where the handsome wood panelled dining room is home to the exceptional modern cooking of chef Will Holland. Highly polished classic French technique is evident in beautifully presented dishes such as freshly picked Devon crab, lightly spiced cod fish cakes and pickled papaya salsa. The eight course menu gourmand that might include pan fried halibut fillet, basil pomme puree, mussel pistou, fennel salad and sauce vierge will delight eager foodies with good appetites. But Becasse isn't just for a special occasion, a well priced menu du jour and friendly service makes this an affordable lunchtime treat.
