The Highwayman Inn
The Highwayman was originally an 18th century coaching inn close to the borders of Yorkshire and Cumbria. Today, it is a very different place which has been lovingly restored to create a relaxing pub environment, which wants to be more ‘local’ than ‘gastropub’, although food is certainly key to proceedings. The menu celebrates the local food heroes of the area on every page so enjoy regional specialities like port of Lancaster smokehouse kipper fillet with soft boiled organic egg or salt-baked Hesketh Bank beets and winter herbs and caught battered scampi, crispy east coast squid with chips cooked in dripping. The craggy stone floors, warm solid wood furniture, open log fires and beautifully landscaped terraced gardens with outdoor heating make The Highwayman a wonderful place to be all year round.
