The Victoria at Holkham
This imposing converted pub has a plum position on the north Norfolk coast, standing at the gates of Holkham Hall and just a few yards from the endless sands of Holkham beach. Stop for a drink with the locals in the candlelit bar with its roaring open fire before dinner in the charming dining room. You know you’re in Norfolk with a menu packed with local goodies like Cromer crabs and Brancaster mussels. The pheasant for a terrine that also includes foie gras comes from Holkham Estate, as does the fillet steak served with béarnaise sauce, chips and salad. The menu wanders further afield with a very Italian starter of Prosciutto, black figs, rocket and pine nuts or risotto of butternut squash, parmesan and sage.
