This delightful dining pub with rooms almost defines the term “hidden gem.” Tucked away in a tiny Hampshire village in the Test Valley (England’s shooting and fishing epicenter), chef Andrew Clarke and front of house manager and partner Lucy Townsend run the place with real character and style. Enjoy a tipple with the locals in the packed bar then take a seat in the romantically candle lit dining area, although fishing enthusiasts should head for the rod room with its ceiling decorated with dozens of rods. The highly accomplished yet rustic cooking reflects the chef’s Michelin starred training. The seasonal menu might kick off with a superb Waldorf salad followed by deeply savoury faggots served with a silky pease pudding.
