Part of a nationwide group of glamorous, eccentrically designed boutique hotels, Malmaison brasserie offers reasonably priced, modern European food in the city's trendy Albert Dock area. The seasonally changing menu might include a light starter of seared scallops with confit of baby fennel and pomegranate vinaigrette followed by a fragrant main of roast curried monkfish with confit garlic and Madeira cream. Grills include a notable burger and aged steaks from the famous Buccleugh estate. Look out for the Home Grown and Local set menu that highlights produce from local suppliers. The extensive list of wines and spirits (carefully compiled by Johnny Walker, the hotel group's appropriately named beverage manager) is a real delight.
