There’s views of Sudeley Castle from the mullioned windows of the 15th century house while a wrought iron staircase makes for an usual focal point in the beamed dining room. Chef Martin Dunn’s modern British menu might offer ballotine and sautéd foie gras with plum jam; pressed terrine of ham hock and grain mustard or a plate of Lewis smoked salmon. Mains include guinea fowl with creamed Savoy cabbage; lemon sole with saffron risotto and pesto dressing or duck breast with sweet and sour cabbage and thyme orange jus. Finish with desserts of frangipane tart or lemon filo with wild strawberry compote and Italian meringue or go for a rarely offered savoury of brioche Welsh rarebit with apple and celeriac salad.
