The Sportsman

An unassuming pub exterior conceals a restaurant of high culinary ambition. They make their own sourdough bread, butter, and even salt from the nearby seawater. Inside is all stained floor boards, tongue and groove and wooden tables and chairs. An ever changing chalkboard menu includes local seafood such as Whitstable native oysters and fried thornback ray with brown butter, cockles and sherry vinegar. Meat is local too; the roast lamb served with mint sauce comes from Monkshill farm in nearby Faversham. True gourmets will want to experience the eight course tasting menu that might kick off with a plate of oysters and chorizo, pickled herring and soda bread followed by the pubs own 18 month salt cured ham and finishes with three desserts.
