Dating back to 1856, Two Fat Ladies at The Buttery is one of Glasgow’s oldest restaurant. Housed in a former 19th century wine merchants, the oak panelled, stained glass interior is suitably romantic and atmospheric. The modern Scottish cooking draws on influences from around the globe. East meets west in a dish of pan fried sea bass, pak choi, tomato and chilli consommé and a minestrone of vegetables, while crab spring roll with sweet chilli sauce is solidly Asian. No Scottish menu would be complete without beef and here Estate of Mey medallions are served with a very Gallic accompaniment of wild mushrooms, truffle, seared foie gras and Madeira jus. The basement 'Shandon Belles' restaurant offers good value, simpler dishes such as slow roast belly pork with apricot and prune stuffing.
