Tan-y-Foel Country House
The ‘house under the hill’ is 750 feet above sea level and offers sweeping views of Snowdonia National Park. The clean, cool, modern restaurant within the handsome stone 17th century hotel is home to chef-patron Janet Pitman’s modern British cooking. Locally sourced produce is a feature of the three course dinner. Start with fillet of Angelsey smoked salmon with celeriac remoulade and salsa verde or Cambrian Hills organic streaky bacon with split pea purée and grain mustard sauce. Mains might include fillet of Bryn Dowsi farm beef, rõsti, wild mushrooms and Madeira jus or a herb crusted sea bass with smoked haddock potato cake. Apple charlotte or baked chocolate custard follow. Wines fall into the ‘to die for’ bracket.
