The Bona family – parents front-of-house, sons Jason and Andrew in the kitchen – run this intimate thatched restaurant. The dining room’s oak beams, cream-coloured walls and modern artwork are the backdrop for the modern European cooking. The carte lunch and fixed price dinner menus show the brothers’ feel for straightforward dishes based on carefully sourced produce. Typical dishes include braised rabbit with homemade pasta; Gloucester Old Spot pork with a bacon and onion rösti and cep sauce. Fish dishes might include hake with noodles or a classic bouillabaisse. Starters might take the form of a Stilton soufflé or duck confit tart. Rhubarb crème brûlée or caramelised apple tart make for a pleasingly classical end to the meal.
