The Star Inn

This 14th century “longhouse” has been one of the most successful and lauded gastropubs in the land for more than a decade. In that time the business has grown to encompass luxury accommodation and even the local butchers, but at heart it’s a family affair, albeit a multi-award winning one. Jacquie Pern runs the buzzy dining rooms while husband Andrew oversees kitchen where he cooks refined food with a pronounced northern accent. The regularly changing chalkboard menu (that’s also available in the bar or the garden) might include the likes game terrine with date and apple chutney; roe deer with venison shepherd's pie or a “posh” fish pie. If you can’t decide on dessert, go for the The Taste of The Star, a selection of miniature puds.
