Sharrow Bay

Whether your fondest memory is of the view of Ullswater lake and the fells beyond or the sticky toffee pudding (the famous dessert was created here), you’ll never forget your visit to Sharrow Bay. Despite now being part of a hotel group, the spirit of original owners Francis Coulson and Brian Sack lives on in the grand, over the top décor. And there’s nothing restrained about the cooking of long serving chefs Jonnie Martin and Colin Akrigg. Starters might include an unapologetically rich sautéed langoustine and duck foie gras with glazed Apple, poached fig and port and chocolate sauce while mains continue in the same vein with the likes of tournedos of Scottish fillet steak with braised ox cheek, roasted tomato, root vegetables and Burgundy sauce.
