The Victorian Restaurant at Rookery Hall

This beautiful sandstone Georgian mansion is set in 38 acres bordered by the River Weaver. Recently refurbished, the wood paneled dining room offers a romantic setting and gorgeous views of the grounds. There’s a nod or two to current trends on a menu that includes roast Loch Fyne diver’s scallops, Cheshire air dried ham, apple jelly and smoked bacon foam but mostly the dishes are modern without being too left of field. Start with asparagus with toasted crumpet, poached free range egg, truffle hollandaise sauce and crisp pancetta and continue with rabbit loin wrapped in dried ham, braised rabbit leg, champ potatoes, apple puree and Calvados sauce. Take a champagne afternoon tea on the terrace.
