Since taking over this 15th century rural pub in 2006, ex-The Star Inn at Harome chef James MacKenzie and wife Kate have been showered with accolades including restaurant and dining pub of the year awards. A very traditional oak beamed bar area gives on to a clean, modern dining room with nicely spaced chunky wooden tables. The classic of sausages, bubble and squeak and onion gravy is present and correct, but for the most part the menu strays in to more adventurous territory. Starters might include cold pressed terrine of hare, ham hock and foie gras with cranberry and Satsuma relish or try hay baked chicken with creamed leeks, parsnip dauphinoise, parsnip and smoky bacon fritters as an unusual main course.
