Ockenden Manor
Set in nine acres of beautifully maintained grounds, the Elizbethan period Ockenden Manor feels a world away from everyday life. In fact, you’re just a few yards from Cuckfield Village High Street and a short drive from Gatwick. With its wood paneling, stained glass windows and open fireplace, the dining room makes a romantic setting for acclaimed chef Stephen Crane’s highly accomplished French cooking. Inventive starters might include honey roast wood pigeon with crispy apple beignets, foie gras parfait and confit beetroot salad while desserts include a text book lemon tart that zings with citrus flavour. Professional service comes from restaurant manager William Spalla who also compiled the excellent wine list.
