Set in nine acres of beautifully maintained grounds, the Elizbethan period Ockenden Manor feels a world away from everyday life. In fact, you’re just a few yards from Cuckfield Village High Street and a short drive from Gatwick. With its views across the gardens towards the South Downs National Park makes a romantic setting for acclaimed chef. Stephen Crane’s highly accomplished French cooking. Inventive starters might include honey roast wood pigeon with crispy apple beignets, foie gras parfait and confit beetroot salad while desserts include a text book lemon tart that zings with citrus flavour. Professional service comes from restaurant manager William Spalla who also compiled the excellent wine list.

The Top Ten Hotels for a Stylish but Intimate Wedding Venue by Liz Coggins
"Tucked away in the pretty Tudor village of Cuckfield, this Elizabethan manor house could have come straight from the pages of any storybook. It is charming, tranquil, has lots of character and is heavenly romantic. Outside there’s an English country garden effect, whilst inside the elegant sitting rooms, antiques and roaring log fires make it so welcoming for wedding guests."
