The Mulberry Tree

Chef Mark Prescott returned to his Lancashire roots after working for the Roux brothers in London, opening the Mulberry Tree in 2000. The converted pub, with a light, spacious dining room, has gone down the upmarket route with foie gras and lobster on his menus alongside gutsy modern British favourites. You might find Irish stew with herb dumplings and a simple roast chicken stuffed with sage and onion rubbing shoulders with roast cod loin with wilted rocket and chorizo or king prawns with chilli. Mark pays fastidious attention to detail by tracking down local provenance. Portions are generous so pace yourself if you are sweet of tooth and want to tackle a dessert. The wine list is a reasonably priced global selection.
