After ten successful years in the center of Bath, chef Stephen Shore upped sticks in 2005 to this 12th century priory house in the nearby village of Midsummer Norton. Cream painted walls hung with watercolours, linen covered tables and a flagstone floor lend character and charm to the intimate dining room. There’s a real commitment to ingredients from the South West including meat and fish from Devon and Cornwall as well as produce from the hotel’s own kitchen garden. Begin with a light salad of crab with tarragon mayonnaise, pine kernel and bacon crust and tomato sorbet followed by an assiette of lamb that includes the braised shoulder, a cutlet topped with mint mousseline and fried sweetbread served with ratatouille.
