Part of a nationwide group of glamorous, eccentrically designed boutique hotels, Malmaison brasserie offers reasonably priced, modern European food right in the city centre. The seasonally changing menu might include a robustly flavoured starter of sautéed chicken livers with a ballotine of homemade black pudding and a sophisticated main course of roast turbot with caramelised chicory tart served with a tomato, coriander and olive oil 'sauce vierge'. Look out for the Home Grown and Local set lunch and dinner menu that highlights produce from local suppliers. The extensive list of wines and spirits (carefully compiled by Johnny Walker, the hotel group's appropriately named beverage manager) is a real delight.
