Malmaison Brasserie

Part of a nationwide group of glamorous, eccentrically designed boutique hotels, Malmaison brasserie offers reasonably priced, modern European food right in the city centre. The seasonally changing menu might include Bywells hot smoked chicken and pistachio terrine with pickled baby beets followed by a classic Bouillabaisse fish stew made with seafood from the North East coast. Desserts include chocolate fondant soufflé served with an unusual Pedro Ximenez sherry ice cream. Look out for the Home Grown and Local set lunch and dinner menu that highlights produce from local suppliers. The extensive list of wines and spirits (carefully compiled by Johnny Walker, the hotel group's appropriately named beverage manager) is a real delight.
