Part of a select nationwide group of glamorous, eccentrically designed boutique hotels, Malmaison brasserie offers reasonably priced, modern European cooking right in the city centre. The seasonally changing menu might include a subtle starter of spring pea mousse, crispy pancetta with pea shoots and crème fraiche followed by a substantial main course of Shropshire duck breast with curly kale, pommes Anna and blackberry jus. Look out for the Home Grown and Local set lunch and dinner menu that highlights produce from local suppliers. The extensive list of wines and spirits (carefully compiled by Johnny Walker, the hotel group's appropriately named beverage manager) is a real delight.
