The Great Hall, once a minstrel’s gallery in the 400 year old hotel, has the wow factor thanks to its barrel-vaulted ceilings, grand open fireplace, antlered chandeliers and panelled coats of arms. Martin Lovell’s modern European menu might feature a roast rack of Lighthorn lamb and confit of neck fillet wrapped in potato paired with a wild rice risotto or an unusual fricassé of braised pork cheeks and lobster with coriander dumplings sauced with lemongrass and ginger. Start with a light fish consommé with tuna or carpaccio of peppercorned English beef with Pecorino and truffle salad and finish with an assiette of pineapple featuring pound cake, lychee and chilli sorbet alongside pineapple tart tatin and pineapple margarita.
