La Potiniere
Thirty minutes from Edinburgh is the tiny jewel in East Lothian’s culinary crown where the elegant dining room seats just twenty people. Chefs Mary Runciman and Keith Marley incorporate classical French techniques into their resolutely modern British food. Contrasting textures, vegetables and fruit are features of their style. Set menus may combine duck terrine with apricot and apple compote, and there’s more fruit, this time pear and quince with a cheese soufflé. Jerusalem artichoke soup is imaginatively paired with poached mussels while roast venison loin comes with champ and beetroot fondant. At dessert, elderflower and strawberries meet rhubarb and caramel mousse gets a garnish of caramelised oranges.
