Le Gallois is Cardiff born chef and owner Padrig Jones (the restaurant’s name is French for Welshmen) who has run this stylishly unfussy restaurant for nearly a decade. Polished, simply laid wood tables and stripped floors create an agreeably modern setting for the modern Welsh cooking that attracts a fiercely loyal local following. “Cwrs cyntaf” (starters) might include marinated salmon with citrus dressing and oyster tempura or seared foie gras with Calvados glazed apples, wild rocket and lentil dressing. Your “prif gyrsiau” (main courses) might take the form of a Meditteranean take on rump of Welsh lamb served with wild mushroom polenta, chargrilled vegetables and a pesto lamb jus.
