Eponymous chef and wine connoisseur Jake Saul Watkins may have recently relocated along with his 800 wines from his tiny restaurant to a more spacious nearby converted pub, but his stylish cooking and exacting sourcing are still second to none in the area. The extra space encompasses a terrace and private dining room alongside the cool, pale restaurant with its well spaced tables and smooth French service. Come here for the finest of classic Franglais food. Roasted foie gras with shallot Tarte Tatin tantalises as does a Dover sole and local wild mushroom fricassee and fillet of beef with a melting oxtail suet pudding. An encore of feuillantine of rhubarb with ginger jelly gets a warm round of applause.
