Husband and wife team Chris and Jo Blaydes' passion to marry food with wine comes through loud and clear in their Windermere village centre restaurant that housed in a lovely Victorian property. For example, wines on the very reasonably priced list are grouped under headings such as “smoked, shell and full flavoured fish” to indicate the food they best match. Dishes on the regulalry changing menu include plenty of local produce such as potted local Flookburgh shrimps with oak smoked salmon, potato chive salad, emulsion vinaigrette and toast or pan fried, rosemary, garlic and Dijon mustard marinated loin of Lakeland lamb on “hot pot” potatoes with glazed carrot and celeriac, tomato red wine lentil reduction and rosemary butter. Look out for the regularly held three course a la carte steak dinner nights.
