An impressive 16th century grade 1 listed building set in 175 acres of grounds, this is the quintessential English country house hotel. All candelabra and columns, the dining room is a grand and romantic affair. Chef Alan Ford subverts expectations by serving a globally influenced menu of diverse dishes rather the classic French cuisine you might expect. Start with sautéed scallops with honey, chilli risotto and star anise syrup followed by magret of duck, pickled spring greens, sweet plum sauce. Good use is made of the hotel’s herb garden (originally created by pioneering chef Robert Carrier) in dishes such as Smoked chicken and grain mustard rillette, tarragon essence and tenderloin of pork, chorizo sausage mash and basil sauce.
