Gravetye Manor

Set in 1000 acres of William Robinson-designed gardens, this Elizabethan manor has been offering diners the classic English country house experience for nearly 50 years. This is a very personal enterprise owned and run by General Manager Andrew Russell and Chef Mark Raffan. A meal in the comfortable, oak paneling dining room might begin with a very traditional rosette of home smoked salmon served with tian of Cornish crab and lemon verbena dressing or plump for the racier option of salad of seared red mullet and squid with spicy couscous. Main courses such as an assiette of lamb served five different ways, but there’s more simple dishes such as gilled Dover sole on offer too. A notable wine cellar holds over 600 bins.
