The General Tarleton Inn
There’s a lot of history associated with this former 18th century coaching inn, and not only because it’s named after a notorious general who fought in the American war of Independence. Chef John Topham worked with the late and legendary Dennis Watkins who helped invent the idea of the gastropub. A former UK Pub Chef of the Year, Topham works mainly with produce from local suppliers. The menu might include a signature starter of “Little Moneybags” made of filo pastry filled with seafood and served with lobster sauce. Typical mains include slowly braised shoulder and roast rack of Yorkshire Dales spring lamb with confit garlic, garden peas, broad beans and thyme jus.
