Ruddy walls, rugged beams, sturdy tables - subtle it ain’t. But what this converted farmhouse nestled between Brecon and Hay on Wye has is character in abundance. Owner Charles Inkin bangs the local, seasonal drum with more integrity than most. Vegetables from the restaurants extensive kitchen are spotlighted with a menu of their own that might include a salad of “Griffin heirloom tomatoes”. A list of classics offers local delicacies such as smoked salmon tartare from the Black Mountains smokery, Crickhowell crème fraîche and a black pepper tuile or Welsh rib-eye steak with red onion confit, chips and béarnaise.
