Fawsley Hall
It may be a 16th century Tudor pile with Georgian and Victorian influences, but it prides itself on being resolutely up to date in both menu and modern, professional service. Looks aren’t everything in this gloriously over the top place, with its vaulted ceilings, Great Hall and Tudor portraits. Come here too for the Knightley restaurant's inventiveness - pork belly combined with crab and lemon sole or orange-scented mash with smoked mushrooms and beef. Local produce is king here, Antony the game supplier lives two villages away while eggs come from Jim in the next parish. Start perhaps with lobster jelly, samphire and lobster salad and finish with a selection of chocolate heats – warm, cold and frozen.
