This restaurant and brasserie has been attracting locals and foodies alike for over a decade. Recently refurbished, the interior now sports a sexy chocolate and red design and posh Italian furniture. Lauded chef Andy McLeish oversees an enticing menu of modern British dishes. Start with a delicate raviolo of lobster and king prawn with spiced white cabbage and lobster and lemongrass velouté followed by a meaty main of roast bavette (skirt steak) of Oxfordshire beef, braised oxtail, with celeriac puree and oxtail jus. Order the assiette of desserts to try a selection of miniature puddings that might include hot chocolate fondant and lemon tart. Sample a pre dinner Green Goddess cocktail made with vodka, apple and absinthe in the stylish bar.

An example is jugged hare with truffle espuma, mash and a little piece of hare saté on a skewer, garnished with a slice of black truffle, a gorgeously rich dish. The lengthy wine list follows the same value formula, with most of the list under £50 and with fair mark-up levels throughout."
