With purple hued floral print wallpaper that echoes the colour of the berries the restaurant is named after, Cassis certainly isn't shy about standing out from the crowd. And there's nothing retiring about the flavours of head chef Steven Smith's elegant, intricate a la carte dishes such as slow cooked loin of hare with its own black pudding and leg meat bolognaise. The seven course tasting menu which might include a tian of crab and skate with avocado ice cream, brown butter and passionfruit emulsion and crab biscuit represents exceptional value for cooking of such ambition.
