Café 21

For over twenty-two years, local culinary legend Terry Laybourne’s upmarket bistro has been the culinary equivalent of its near neighbour the iconic Tyne bridge. In 2007, the restaurant moved to larger premises with a bar, private dining and improved parking. A lengthy menu offers plenty of choice at all stages. Try a rustic venison terrine with dried cherries or a refined crab lasagne with chive butter sauce and there’s a tongue in cheek take on double fried eggs with foie gras replacing the expected ham. Main courses also contrast the refined with the rustic; splash out on fillet steak au poivre or tuck into a rib- eye big enough for 2 to share.
