This former coaching inn, renowned for its fishing and shooting, makes the most of its position close to Dartmoor by taking advantage of the wonderful produce that surrounds it. Expect to see the likes of Devon beef and cheese such as Ticklemore on the menu. The elegant dining room with its crystal chandelier and linen-clad tables is flooded with light by a series of tall French windows that open out on to the gardens. Begin your meal with seasonal English Asparagus served simply with a chervil hollandaise followed by a complex assembly of John Dory, sea trout quenelles, scallops and sole with girolle mushrooms. Desserts might include a summery gratin of strawberries and raspberries with a champagne sabayon.
