Arkle, The Chester Grosvenor

This grand hotel dining room is named after the famous racehorse whose image adorns the walls. Deep, patterned carpeting, Rene Mackintosh-style chairs and highly polished wooden tables give an almost regal air to the restaurant. Part of the Duke of Westminster estate, its one of the country’s most longstanding and consistently lauded places to eat. There’s luxuries galore on the menu including lobster, scallops, langoustine and Limousin veal. The more modest mackerel is given a de-luxe makeover with the addition of pink fir apple velouté, warm mackerel fondant, vodka cream and Oscietra caviar while leg of mutton is slow braised and served with Scottish langoustines, Jerusalem artichokes and shaved truffle.
