The Albannach
Set in the starkly beautiful wilderness of the North-West Highlands, this white painted Victorian house stands out against the rugged countryside that surrounds it. Self taught hosts and chefs Colin Craig and Lesley Crosfield offer guests a daily changing, no choice five course dinner. A pean to Scotland's larder (no surprise when you learn that Albannach means Scottish), a meal might include a warm tartlet of local Lochinver crab with vine tomato chutney or seared, hand-dived Lochinver Scallops and roasted monkfish tails on saffron and seaweed rice. In season, game plays its part; a starter of wood pigeon with spiced red cabbage with guinea fowl ravioli and game chocolate sauce or roast saddle of wild venison with port sauce.
