The Burrell Collection
The Burrell Collection was gifted to the City of Glasgow in 1944 by Sir William Burrell and is housed in a purpose built gallery within Pollok Country Park. This priceless collection consists of some 8000 items of European, Near Eastern and Oriental fine and decorative art. Highlights of the collection include the spectacular medieval European stained glass, tapestries and furniture, along with Egyptian, Greek and Roman antiquities. Also 19th century art including works by Degas, Cézanne, Renoir and Whistler, plus Islamic art and Chinese art. More than 3000 items are displayed at any one time along with regular temporary exhibitions.
