The Writers´ Museum

The Writers´ Museum is dedicated to Scotland´s great literary figures - Robert Burns (1759-1796), Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) and Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1895). On display is a collection of manuscripts, first editions, portraits and personal items that include Burns´ writing desk and Scott´s chessboard. In the adjacent Makars´ Court, which takes its name from the Scots word for a writer or poet, commemorative flagstones celebrate the work of Scottish writers from the 14th century to the present day. Other prominent Scottish writers are featured in the museum®s temporary exhibition programme.
