Ashmolean Museum of Art & Archaeology
Founded in 1683, the Ashmolean is Europe’s oldest public museum and one of Britain’s finest. Following a major £61 million redevelopment, the Ashmolean has just opened the new Rick Mather building, comprising 39 new galleries, an Education Centre and Oxford’s first roof-top restaurant. Combining the best contemporary architecture and the beautiful nineteenth century façade, it is a treasure house of riches: archaeology from Pre-Dynastic Egypt to medieval China; Renaissance drawings to Picasso paintings; plus silver, glass and gold from the ancient Greeks to the 21st century. The Ashmolean is the greatest museum of art and archaeology in the heart England.
