South Shields Museum & Art Gallery
South Shields Museum & Gallery explores local history during the life and times of famous author Catherine Cookson, as well as examining how the natural landscape has shaped the history of the area. In the Catherine Cookson Gallery exhibits include her writing desk and the `Big Red Book´ from `This is Your Life´. It also features an art gallery with a difference, combining many of the Museums´s paintings with exciting hands-on displays, enabling visitors to find out more about the paintings and their artists. There is also a temporary exhibition programme
