Durham University Oriental Museum

Durham University Oriental Museum opened in 1960, and is the only museum of its kind in the country devoted solely to Oriental art and archaeology. The collections explore cultures that range from Ancient Egypt to Imperial China and modern Japan to the work of living artists. Included in the displays are ceramics, sculptures, jade and paintings. A new gallery dedicated to China in the 20th century concentrates on the Imperial court, arts and crafts and the Silk Route. There is also an extensive temporary exhibition programme.
