Marking the bicentenary of the publication of Scott’s poem, Rokeby, it explores the relationship between literature and art, examining the poem’s role in attracting artists such as Turner & highlighting the importance of the dale in the development of landscape painting in Britain.

This exclusive show has a special resonance with those involved with historic and vintage clothing. Material Remains, examines fabric matter in varying states of wear and decay. Paralleling the observations commonly recorded by archaeologists, museum curators and conservators, Diana Winkfield’s work focuses on the analysis of the colour, fabric, shape, texture, condition and origin of an object.

Jeremiah Dixon, British surveyor and astronomer was brought up in County Durham but became best known for his work with Charles Mason in determining the Mason-Dixon Line between Pennsylvania and Maryland. This exhibition will mark the 250th anniversary of the Mason Dixon Line and will include items such as model ships, surveying equipment and historic maps to celebrate the mapping of the famous border.

Lovely galleries displaying the fine porcelain, furniture, paintings and textiles. A delightful afternoon for the family. Tea room is lovely too!
