Southampton City Art Gallery is the most outstanding gallery in the south of England, internationally renowned for its collection of contemporary works by British artists. The collection numbers over 3500 works, and spans 600 years of European art history, from the 14th century to the present day. The collections include 17th century Dutch landscapes, French Impressionist paintings and the earliest item is an Italian Renaissance altar piece by Allegretto Nuzi. The gallery presents four major temporary exhibitions a year, which range from historic to contemporary art.
