D-Day Museum and Overlord Embroidery

The D-Day Museum and Overlord Embroidery was opened in 1984 to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Normandy Landings in 1944. It houses the magnificent and colourful `Overlord Embroidery´, commissioned by Lord Dulverton and inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry. An archive film show includes original footage and brings this period of the Second World War alive. Experience life in the Anderson Shelter, eavesdrop on communications in `The Map Room´, board a `Dakota´ and be the first to land in a field in France, pass through the German pill-box, see the armada approaching the beaches and board an original landing craft of the period.
