Southend Central Museum & Planetarium

The Southend Central Museum & Planetarium has displays of local history, geology and wildlife with special sections on the Thames Estuary and Victorian Life. An imposing feature, dominating the main hall, is the late medieval `Reynolds´ fireplace, originally part of a building in nearby Prittlewell. The Museum´s Discovery Centre is an interactive centre where visitors can handle exhibits, and Video microscopes allow visitors to examine a range of specimens from London Clay fossils to coins and garden pests. Also on display is a collection of historic local photographs which provide a fine selection of views of Southend from Victorian times to the 1960s.
