Wigan Pier
Opie´s Museum of Memories at the Wigan Pier Experience. The Robert Opie collection had been assembled to reflect the remarkable story of domestic life in Britain since the industrial revolution. By displaying the actual products, brands, posters, magazines, toys, televisions and royal souvenirs of each era, along with the advertisments and images that reflect fashion and design, it is possible to gain a sense of ever changing culture and lifestyle through which our parents and grandparents lived. The Museum of Memories not only tells the incredible story of our consumer society but also revives our own memories, placing us in the context of history, of which we are all part of. The Way We Were Heritage Centre takes you back to the strict days of Victorian Britain; experience the hardship, social lives and in some instances the entertaining times of people of Wigan in 1900. See for example what they did on holiday during ´wakes week´, walk through our mine, witness the Maypole colliery diaster. Visitors never forget our Victorian schoolroom - you will meet the schoolmaster and participate in choir practice; you may even be the bell monitor or ´lice´ inspector. At Wigan Pier Experience we will provide you and your family with the opportunity to take a journey through yesteryear.
