The Whitworth Art Gallery
The Whitworth Art Gallery was founded in 1889 with money left by Sir Joseph Whitworth, the Gallery is now part of the University of Manchester. Internationally famous for its collections of art and design along with an outstanding collection of prints and drawings. It also houses great collections of British watercolours, and excellent work by modern and contemporary artists. The Whitworth is home to the finest collections of textiles and wallpapers outside the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. A changing programme of special exhibitions designed to complement the permanent collection runs throughout the year.
