Portland Basin Museum

Portland Basin Museum is housed within the rebuilt historic Ashton Canal Warehouse. A a lively modern museum in a peaceful canal-side setting. Inside is typical Tameside street of the 1920s with a house, school, chapel, pawnbrokers and doctors surgery, along with the sights and sounds. There are displays on `Made in Tameside“, including donkeystones and Robertson“s jam, made in the local area. Fun interactives and regular trails will keep the children occupied whilst the programme of temporary exhibitions, which has included teddy bears, football and the Sixties, mean there is always something new for adults.
